About WESTIN

About WESTIN

WESTIN is a multifaceted project that derives from two main question platforms; the exploration of fashion in the expanded field, and the experimental development of a profession in this specific field.

The aim is to further widen, explore and develop the view on what clothing is and could be. Create a bigger multitude and make people see beyond commercial materialism and realize that the future is quality over quantity in all aspects of the process.

The creations radiate a predilection for impressing craftsmanship combined with supreme design. The creations tackle issues of masculinity, femininity and everything society has put in between. The concepts of the designs are constantly developing, always with consideration of- and with a base in contemporary issues.

Design philosophies and processes should be defined, but aesthetics should change and evolve. All products are hand made and limited edition, and the wearer of a WESTIN piece will certainly feel the knowledge and soul the garments behold.

The aim is to explore different contexts and build a platform all to be able to work as freely and creatively as possible to raise the standard in both design and product quality.

Background WESTIN

The BACKGROUND

WESTIN was developed in spring 2009 by Sofia M. westin and is a project based on the exploration of fashion design in the expanded field. The first part of the project is a continuation on previous work Sofia has done during her BA education at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås. Sofia has formal training in classic tailoring and is now working on her MFA at Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm.

The WESTIN project is the first in the Sofia M. Westin company regime, more will come.

The GARMENTS

All creations on www.sofiamwestin.com are hand-crafted garments.

The limited pieces are made with the concept and creativity as it´s core and have its own unique style deviating from the trend concept.

The creations can be described as simple on an advanced level with new and alternative silhouettes, cuts and ideas.

The WESTIN project is the first in the Sofia M. Westin company regime, more will come.
